The Cause of Hair Loss: DHT
The majority of hair loss results from the formation DHT, or dihydrotestosterone. DHT, an androgen or male sex hormone, forms as a result of metabolic and hormonal changes and imbalances –more so in men than women. In men, patterned baldness is called androgenetic alopecia, a genetic condition that causes the hair follicles to shrink. When DHT binds with androgen receptors, the dermal papilla in our hair follicles stop receiving the nutrients they need to encourage growth.
What is a NeoGraft® Hair Transplant?*
Fortunately, the hair on the back of the head is genetically programmed to NOT fall out. This means, we can transplant the hair from the back of the head to the balding areas and it will continue to grow.
Most patients are candidates for the Neograft automated follicular unit extraction (FUE) method, which does not require a scalpel, staples or stitches. This results in less pain and discomfort and a faster recovery compared to conventional hair transplant methods.

Although not commonly thought of as a female condition, women can suffer from hair loss, just like men. Female pattern baldness involves a thinning of the follicles on the sides and top of the scalp. The condition is thought to be a result of hormone imbalances and genetics. Certain medications, stress and sickness can also cause women to lose their hair. While most men often start balding by the time they are 35 years old, women can experience hair loss at any age.
Women who are good candidates for NeoGraft are those whose hair is thinning, or who have lost a small amount of hair because of a burn or injury. Women who want to restore their hairlines, as well as women whose hair loss is caused from traction alopecia can also benefit from transplant. Women who have lost hair from cosmetic procedures or an accident or trauma are also good candidates
Hair loss in women can be localized, patterned or diffuse. Localized hair loss–usually attributed to an injury or medical condition–can be treated by using hair transplantation, as can patterned baldness. Diffuse hair loss, which is most common in women, typically cannot be treated with the NeoGraft method.
