There are three main causes: weight gain, genetics and aging. You definitely don’t have to be overweight to have fullness under your chin. Unfortunately, sometimes, no matter how much you exercise or diet, your double chin may not go away, causing you to look heavier and older than you actually are.
What is KYBELLA and how does it destroy the submental fat?
KYBELLA is an FDA-approved prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe under-chin fat. Now, you can get rid of your double chin noninvasively without surgical liposuction.
The active ingredient in KYBELLA is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When KYBELLA is injected into the submental fat, it permanently destroys the fat cells, which are then removed through the body’s lymphatic system. Once destroyed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.
Who is a good candidate for KYBELLA?

How is KYBELLA performed?
KYBELLA is a quick in-office treatment. After we apply topical anesthetic to the treatment area for about 20 minutes, we precisely mark the area based on the amount of submental fat. Then, we inject the KYBELLA solution. To make the treatment more comfortable, we use the Zimmer Cooling machine during the injections and apply ice packs and complimentary arnica ointment right after the treatment to minimize swelling and bruising.
How many KYBELLA treatments will I need?
During your consultation, we’ll discuss your expectations and determine how many treatments are appropriate for you. In general, most clients need about 2-4 treatments.
You can schedule your second KYBELLA treatment one month from the initial treatment. However, we recommend waiting two months between additional KYBELLA treatments to see the full results. The gradual tightening effect takes place over a period of at least six weeks.
What is the downtime after a KYBELLA treatment?
You’ll be able to resume your normal daily activities immediately, but will have some swelling for 3-5 days afterwards depending on how many vials are injected into the treatment area. Most clients need 2 vials during the initial visit. Applying ice packs to the area for couple days after the KYBELLA injections will help minimize swelling, as will frequently applying the complimentary arnica ointment we send home with you.
Is KYBELLA safe?

What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA?
The most common side effects of KYBELLA include swelling, bruising and discomfort after the treatment. Very rarely, temporary numbness and hardness may occur.
When will I see results from KYBELLA?
Your results will become visible over the first 2 to 3 months. After a full series of treatments, most people notice a more sculpted under-chin area. The results may continue to improve over the next six months following the treatment series. In clinical trials, KYBELLA has shown to have skin-tightening effects as well. Do I need a follow a strict diet and exercise program after KYBELLA injections?
Although a healthy diet and regular exercise are always recommended, the results from the KYBELLA treatment are permanent and are not effected by diet and exericse.

Even if you do gain weight, it may not affect your under-chin area. You can always get a touchup treatment if necessary.

KYBELLA vs COOLSCULPTING MINI®
What is the Coolsculpting mini?
CoolSculpting® uses Cryolipolysis®, the method of freezing fat cells without damaging the skin or other tissues. Over time, your body naturally purges the dead fat cells through the lymphatic system. Using the same technology as the full-sized applicator, CoolSculpting Mini is a new FDA-approved attachment that suctions skin and targeted fat into the applicator, while the cooling plates chill the fat to the point of freezing, permanently killing the fat cells and leaving the skin unaffected. Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than skin or muscle cells, so there’s no risk of any serious side effects. Many clients report results after one 45-minute treatment, although some may need a series of 2-4 for the best results.
Some clients find the cold temperature slightly uncomfortable for the first few minutes until they acclimate. Most clients relax, read or watch movies on their mobile devices during the treatment. Afterwards, a trained clinician will massage the area—in this case, the skin under the chin—to maximize the effects.
CoolSculpting clients rarely experience side effects and can immediately return to work and their other daily activities. On occasion, temporary redness or numbness can occur in the treatment area.

It’s best for women with looser, more mature skin (younger clients’ skin may be too taut to suction into the applicator). The one major drawback is since there is only one applicator size, it can be difficult to customize the procedure for everyone. KYBELLA is highly customizable and is typically a better option for people with very small pockets of fat under their chin.
Whichever option you pick, you’ll have some swelling and soreness in the treatment area for 3-5 days—potentially less with Coolsculpting Mini. There’s also a small chance you’ll experience some numbness and redness up to a month following the treatment. (This also tends to be less with Coolsculpting Mini). You’ll most likely need a series of either treatment to achieve your desired result.
The best candidates should be relatively fit and near their ideal weight with good skin tone and isolated pockets of under-chin fat. The procedures are not meant for people who are significantly overweight. The results for KYBELLA and CoolSculpting Mini take 4-8 weeks to appear. KYBELLA vs NECK LIPOSUCTION
KBELLA is a 100% noninvasive treatment that uses injections to permanently kill fat cells in the under-chin area, while liposuction is a surgery that requires anesthesia.
