RADIESSE®
Lift on contact, then rebuild from within. RADIESSE® is a calcium hydroxylapatite biostimulator that restores volume the moment it is placed and keeps working for months by stimulating your own collagen and elastin. It is the injectable of choice when the goal is sharper structure, a defined jawline, and firmer skin rather than a temporary fill. At Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness, our experienced injectors build personalized treatment plans so the result looks like better structure, never added weight.

What
Is RADIESSE®?
RADIESSE® is an FDA-approved injectable biostimulator made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral the body already produces in bone, which is why RADIESSE® integrates so naturally into the tissue around it.
Roughly 30% of the syringe is CaHA microspheres and the remaining 70% is a carboxymethylcellulose gel. The gel delivers the correction you see the day of treatment. The microspheres stay behind and work as a scaffold that signals your skin to produce new collagen, elastin, and supporting tissue. RADIESSE® (+) is the same formulation with 0.3% lidocaine added for comfort during injection.
This dual action is what separates RADIESSE® from a traditional hyaluronic acid filler, which adds volume but does not rebuild structure. It also separates it from Sculptra®, which stimulates collagen beautifully but gives no immediate volume. RADIESSE® does both. At Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness every plan starts with your anatomy, and your provider selects the right product and dilution for each area.
How Does RADIESSE® Work?
RADIESSE® works in two stages. The gel carrier gives immediate lift and contour in the treated area, and the CaHA microspheres trigger a regenerative response that builds over the following months.
Once placed, the microspheres form a scaffold inside the extracellular matrix. Direct contact with that scaffold mechanically activates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for building the skin’s support structure. Those fibroblasts produce collagen III, which is gradually replaced by the stronger collagen I, along with elastin for elasticity, proteoglycans for hydration, and new blood vessels that keep the tissue healthy.
In clinical studies, RADIESSE® produced significantly more collagen and elastin at six months than untreated skin. Over that same period the gel carrier is absorbed and the CaHA microspheres break down into calcium and phosphate ions the body clears naturally, leaving behind tissue your own body built. Most facial areas are corrected in a single session, while skin quality treatments using a hyperdiluted preparation are usually planned as two or three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
Where Can RADIESSE® Be Used?
RADIESSE® carries four FDA-approved indications, which is more than any other biostimulator available in the United States.
- Facial wrinkles and folds, including the nasolabial folds, in patients 22 and older
- Hand volume loss, where it restores fullness over the tendons and veins
- Jawline contour, using RADIESSE® (+) in patients 21 and older
- Décolleté wrinkles, using a 1:2 saline dilution, approved in April 2026 for patients 22 and older
Beyond those indications, providers commonly use RADIESSE® to sharpen the chin, soften marionette lines and pre-jowl hollows, restore the cheeks and temples, and improve crepey skin on the neck with a hyperdiluted preparation. It is not used in the lips. Your provider will confirm which areas are right for you and which may be better served by a hyaluronic acid filler or a skin treatment.
RADIESSE® vs. Sculptra®: What Is The Difference?
RADIESSE® is an FDA-approved injectable biostimulator made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral the body already produces in bone, which is why RADIESSE® integrates so naturally into the tissue around it.

At Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness every plan starts with your anatomy, and your provider selects the right product and dilution for each area.
RADIESSE® vs. Sculptra®: What Is The Difference?
Both are biostimulators, and they solve different problems. RADIESSE® is made of calcium hydroxylapatite and delivers immediate lift alongside collagen stimulation, which makes it the stronger choice for definition and contour in areas like the jawline, chin, and nasolabial folds. Sculptra® is made of poly-L-lactic acid, produces no immediate volume, and works gradually over a series of sessions to restore broad facial fullness.
RADIESSE® often corrects an area in one appointment. Sculptra® is typically planned as two or three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Many patients at Serenity use both, with RADIESSE® for structure and Sculptra® for overall volume, and add a hyaluronic acid filler such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® where soft, flexible correction is needed.
Your provider will explain the trade-offs during your consultation and recommend the combination that fits your face and your timeline.

The
Treatment Process
Your journey begins with a personalized consultation at Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness, where your provider evaluates your facial anatomy and skin quality, discusses your goals, and builds a customized treatment plan. During this appointment you will learn what to expect before, during, and after your session, and receive tailored pre-treatment guidance to help ensure optimal results.
During the procedure, your injector places RADIESSE® at the correct depth for each area using a needle or a cannula, depending on the region being treated. Most appointments take 15 to 45 minutes. RADIESSE® (+) contains lidocaine, and a topical numbing agent can be applied for additional comfort. Precision placement allows your provider to restore structure and definition while keeping natural movement and expression.
Recovery is minimal, and most clients return to normal activities the same day. Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites may occur but usually resolves within a few days. We typically recommend avoiding strenuous activity, heat exposure, and alcohol for 24 hours after treatment. Hands may feel puffy for several days, which is expected. Your provider will give you aftercare instructions to support a smooth recovery.
Results appear right away thanks to the gel carrier, then evolve as new collagen forms. Over the following weeks and months, skin looks firmer and contours look cleaner. Most patients enjoy their results for 12 to 18 months, and clinical studies have followed facial correction out to two years and hand correction to one year. Touch-up treatments keep the result consistent over time.
Common FAQs
How Long Does RADIESSE® Last?
Most patients enjoy results for 12 to 18 months, depending on the area treated, the amount used, and individual metabolism. Clinical studies have followed facial correction out to two years and hand correction to one year. Because RADIESSE® builds your own collagen, many patients find that maintenance treatments require less product over time.
When Will I See Results?
Immediately. The gel carrier provides visible lift and correction the day of your appointment. The collagen-building effect develops underneath over the following months, so skin firmness and texture continue to improve well after the initial result settles.
Is This Treatment Painful?
Most clients experience minimal discomfort. RADIESSE® (+) contains lidocaine, and a topical numbing agent is typically applied before treatment. Mild pressure or pinching may be felt during injection, but these sensations are generally well tolerated.
Can I Combine This Treatment With Other Fillers?
Yes. RADIESSE® pairs well with hyaluronic acid fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, with Sculptra® for broader volume restoration, and with Botox® for dynamic lines. Your provider can also combine it with skin treatments like microneedling as part of a comprehensive plan.
Is There Any Downtime?
Downtime is minimal for most clients, and you can usually resume normal activities the same day. Some swelling, redness, or bruising may occur and typically resolves within a few days. Following your post-treatment instructions helps ensure the fastest recovery.
Can RADIESSE® Be Dissolved?
RADIESSE® is not reversible with hyaluronidase, the enzyme used to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers, because it is not made of hyaluronic acid. This is exactly why placement matters and why RADIESSE® should be injected by an experienced provider. The product does break down naturally over time.
Who Is A Good Candidate?
Anyone looking to restore lost structure, sharpen facial contours, or improve skin firmness without surgery may be a candidate. RADIESSE® is particularly well suited to patients who want definition along the jawline and chin, correction of nasolabial folds, or rejuvenation of the hands. Ideal candidates are in good health and have realistic expectations. Your provider will evaluate your anatomy and goals during consultation.
