What logo Are Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are injectables containing botulinum toxin that reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines. By relaxing a muscle, neuromodulators smooth out the overlying skin, giving way to effects that last an average of three months.
Popular neuromodulators are used for both their FDA-approved uses and off-label uses. Some more commonly treated areas with neuromodulators include forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, smoker’s lines, marionette lines, neck bands, the upper lip, and the jawline.
The neuromodulators we offer are BOTOX® and Dysport®, which are somewhat different yet work toward the same goal. BOTOX® is onabotulinumtoxinA, made by Allergan, and Dysport® is abobotulinumtoxinA, made by Galderma. They are both used to relax the muscles that cause facial wrinkles and lines. However, BOTOX® and Dysport® have different unit dosing systems, so one unit of BOTOX® equals about three units of Dysport®.

BOTOX®

BOTOX® contains botulinum toxin A, a compound produced by bacteria that binds to receptors in the muscle when injected into a specific area. From there, BOTOX® acts as a messenger, signaling the body to block the release of acetylcholine, which is responsible for muscle movement. By limiting the release of this substance, the muscles in the treated area become inactive, and wrinkles that form from repeated muscle contractions begin to smooth out.

Dysport®

Dysport® is also a neuromodulator, and it works similarly to BOTOX®. But where it differs is that it works faster than BOTOX®, kicking into effect after just a few days, whereas BOTOX® can take up to one week to begin to show its effects on the skin. Dysport® also diffuses more than BOTOX®, so it spreads better in a larger treatment area, like the forehead, for example.
Both BOTOX® and Dysport® can temporarily smooth lines and wrinkles for a younger look. Serenity MedSpa is one of the most respected names in BOTOX® and Dysport® injections. We have earned the prestigious Black Diamond status with Allergan, the makers of BOTOX®, and we are one of the top-volume users of Allergan products in the nation.

How Do Neuromodulators Work?

BOTOX® and Dysport® work by blocking the communication between the nerves and muscles to reduce the activity of a specific muscle. By limiting communication between the two, the muscle responsible for creating facial lines and wrinkles is relaxed, giving the skin a smoothing effect. The more frequently specific facial muscles are relaxed, the more improvement there is in the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

Although neuromodulators are a great way to create a more youthful and rejuvenated look with fewer lines and wrinkles, how quickly the treatment will kick in depends on which neuromodulators are used. BOTOX® effects are usually seen around one week, if not sooner, whereas Dysport® can show wrinkle-reducing effects after two to five days.

When using neuromodulators to treat expression-related wrinkles, you’ll notice a smoothing effect on wrinkles and deep lines for a more youthful appearance. However, the results are temporary and are expected to last about three months. However, some people experience longer-lasting and even shorter-lasting results depending on how much product is injected and how their body naturally metabolizes neuromodulators.

At Serenity MedSpa, our highly skilled and experienced professionals, Dr. Lisa Kang and our aesthetic nurse injectors, Nia Zameni, Sophie Lyapina, Ligaya Palabyab, Allison Hsu, and Judy Yonai administer our BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments.

What Are the Benefits of Neuromodulators?

With neuromodulators, the treatment is quick, safe, easy, and effective, with minimal downtime and helps achieve a younger appearance. They are also:

They are also often used in target treatment areas to limit the effects of dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement. When used for preventative purposes, neuromodulators stop wrinkles from forming. Both BOTOX® and Dysport® can also be used to lift certain areas of the face, and when combined with certain facial fillers, they can give a more holistic rejuvenated effect.

Another benefit of neuromodulators is that they can help improve the overall texture of your skin. Since BOTOX® and Dysport® can inhibit the release of acetylcholine, neuromodulators can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and make the skin look smoother and more even.

The Treatment Areas

There are several reasons for wanting to get neuromodulator injections. Aside from the apparent wrinkle- and line-smoothing effects, neuromodulators can also be used to treat:

The logo Treatment Process

Before undergoing treatment with a neuromodulator, we recommend a consultation to ensure you are suitable for the procedure.
In the days before your neuromodulator treatment, it’s important to avoid all medications that can increase bleeding, including blood thinners, aspirin, and ibuprofen.
The injection process itself is quick and takes about 10 to 15 minutes. First, the skin is cleaned, and then the areas to be injected are marked up. Next, BOTOX® or Dysport® is injected into the skin with a tiny needle. You may feel a slight bit of pressure or pricking sensation, which will last no more than a few minutes. There may be some pinpoint bleeding, too.
Afterward, you should avoid strenuous activities and sun exposure for at least 24 hours to ensure the treatment’s maximum effectiveness and minimize swelling or bruising. Stay upright for four hours and keep your head elevated when resting. Avoid rubbing, massaging, pressing on, or squeezing the treated areas.

Common FAQs

The cost of neuromodulator treatment varies from person to person and depends on the number of units injected, the neuromodulator used, and the treatment areas. Therefore, we recommend a consultation for a detailed estimate to determine your treatment's cost.
Both BOTOX® and Dysport® work well for a wide variety of people and are excellent options for patients looking to achieve a more youthful look, especially if you are experiencing dynamic wrinkles, which are best treated with neuromodulators. Mild to moderate wrinkles on the eyes, forehead, neck, and mouth tend to benefit most from treatment with neuromodulators.
Neither BOTOX® nor Dysport® is a permanent option for staying wrinkle-free. Maintenance sessions are required every three to four months, which is about the time it takes to reestablish communication between the nerves and muscles.
The number of units required is different for everyone, although certain parts of the face have average unit doses. For example, on average, 10 to 50 units are needed to treat the forehead, whereas row's feet require fewer units because they are a smaller area.
Yes, neuromodulator injections are safe and have a long-standing track record of safety and efficacy. However, it is of the utmost importance that they are only administered by a qualified and experienced medical professional.
Side effects are usually mild and temporary but include minimal redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.
No. At most, you may feel a quick yet short pinch or pressure at the injection site. We can also apply topical numbing creams first to help make the treatment more comfortable, but most patients do not need it.
